“Vgika psila kai playasa” (“I went up and lay down”)
Song from Epirus.
A rough translation. — I went up on the mountain and lay down on a stone. And there was a grave, a young man buried.
I hear the grave groaning, sighing deeply. ” Who is the person stepping on me? If it is a young man let him be happy, if it is an old man let him be proud, if it is my love, let her live long like the mountains. I was also young some time. I walked so many nights, under the moon. And now I end up here, everyone stepping on me. Please, my brother, take my body and bury it in our village.”
