In Xenitia, live music, testimony and images are combined into a documentary on stage that highlights nostalgia, longing and the heartache shared by all migrants. Emotions that have been turned into music in countless songs about leaving ones homeland. Three musicians, a director and a journalist, through the stories of Greeks who immigrated over the last few years, present their own contemporary version of leaving ones homeland and living abroad and the music that accompanies it. After a strict selection process, the Xenitia performance was funded by the Dutch Ministry of Culture as part of the ‘Europe by People’ Festival, on occasion of the Netherlands’ cultural Presidency of the European Union in 2016. After its premier at Compagnietheater in Amsterdam on 30 April 2016, it started a European tour. Its first stop was De Grote Poste in Oostende, Belgium.
